  • Faith-based nonprofit takes on Christian nationalist rhetoric in "False Prophets Don't Speak for Me" campaign.

Faithful America is the largest online community of progressive Christians putting faith into action for social justice, known for rapid-response digital campaigns that mobilize grassroots Christian voices against hate and extremism. When a wave of political candidates began invoking Christian language to justify nationalist and white supremacist rhetoric, Faithful America partnered with Ayouni to build their first-ever messaging campaign: “False Prophets Don’t Speak for Me.” The campaign needed a visual identity, a full suite of social graphics, and supporting collateral that could call out this rhetoric directly, center the voices of progressive faith leaders in response, and drive viewers to take action on the campaign website.

    THE CHALLENGE:

This was uncharted territory for Faithful America. Unlike their usual content, this needed to function as a standalone campaign with its own identity, distinct enough to grab attention and signal urgency, while still being unmistakably clear in its message. The tone had to be direct enough to call out harmful rhetoric without becoming reactive noise, and it needed a visual system flexible enough to work across dozens of different candidates and quotes while staying instantly recognizable as one unified campaign.

    OUR APPROACH:

Ayouni built a visual system rooted in warning and reclamation: warning viewers that something in the candidate’s rhetoric doesn’t add up, and reclaiming the authority to speak on Christian values for the faith leaders actually pushing back. Every element, from the logo to the color palette to the photo treatment, was designed to work toward that same effect across a wide range of candidates and quotes, while staying instantly recognizable as one unified campaign.

The campaign logo brings together three elements working in tension with each other: “False Prophets,” styled to look visually broken or fractured, signaling that the message it represents is corrupted or wrong; the Faithful America logo, grounding the campaign in the organization’s existing credibility; and “Don’t Speak for Me” set inside a highlighted speech bubble, shifting visual weight onto the idea of reclaiming voice rather than the candidates themselves.

The campaign borrowed Faithful America’s existing yellow, paired it with black, and introduced slanted linework throughout, a direct visual reference to caution tape. The effect reads instantly as a warning, telling viewers before they even process the text that what follows deserves scrutiny.

Each graphic follows a consistent formula: a photo of the candidate in question, desaturated to black and white so they read as flat, “greyed out,” and untrustworthy, paired with a yellow-highlighted quote from a local faith leader speaking out against them. Photo selection leaned into moments where candidates appeared tense or uneasy, reinforcing the message. The color hierarchy does the persuasive work on its own: the candidate fades into the background while the faith leader’s words, rendered in the campaign’s boldest color, are what the eye is drawn to first.
